SOPHIE HARDING
Sophie’s work is focused on simplicity, joy and harmony. She captures the simple joys in her life by painting the essence of a scene or group of objects using layers of acrylic on canvas or linen. Themes include seasonal fruit and flowers, collections of objects within the home, a morning spent at the beach or a stroll through a Cornwall garden. Her paintings are primarily driven by colour with an emphasis on the power colour has to evoke positive emotions. Alongside painting Sophie also makes small edition prints depicting the essence of elements using drypoint and monoprint techniques.
Sophie graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1992 with a BA Hons in Fashion and Printed Textile Design and has worked full time since then as a painter and illustrator. Her work has been published internationally.
Sophie’s paintings have been shown and sold in galleries around the U.K. since 1988. Her work has been exhibited in Liberty London and collaborations include Collagerie, AirBnb, Wild Child Cacao, East End Prints, Woodmansterne Publications, Museums and Galleries and the Cornish Bakery. Her work was selected for the RWA Open Show in 2018 and the RA Summer Show in 2022.
Sophie lives in far West Cornwall and works either in her small but compact studio at home or in a larger space a few minutes walk from the seafront in Penzance.
